DON’T DITCH YOUR DENIM: HOW TO WEAR IT ALL SUMMER LONG

When temperatures rise, the last thing you’re reaching for is a pair of weighty jeans, right? Wrong. Well, almost. While heavyweight denim is by no means a summer staple, finding lighter, warm-weather-approved alternatives is surprisingly easy.

Start from the top. If you rely on denim all year round, consider shirts a happy medium until autumn. ‘It’s all about balancing out the utilitarian style while preparing for the unpredictability of British weather. I’m a big advocate for denim shirts as the perfect year-round staple, my go-to is taking our classic denim style in off-white with our Ceiriad shorts for an easy weekend look,’ says With Nothing Underneath Founder and CEO Pip Durell.

As for the jeans themselves, ‘For me it’s about a loose fitting pair, a bralette and a cool cotton shirt – light, loose and effortless.’ So if you can’t bear to part with your emotional support jeans, now you don’t have to. Here’s how denim devotees are doing it.

Consider The Jort

Take note from teens and consider jorts the cool-girl take on city shorts. Wear with scarf tops and ballet flats for the ultimate summer ’fit.

Keep It Loose

Choose loose fit everything to avoid sweat-inducing cling. An oversized striped tee, baggy, straight-leg jeans and flip-flops are your new off-duty uniform.

Look On the Bright Side

Switch out classic blue washes for sunny shades of lime and tomato. Pair with low-key tank tops and tees for easy-going outfits you’ll reach for time and time again.

Make It Cut

Denim cut-offs are no longer just for the beach, nor do they only come in bottom-baring lengths. Opt for longer styles in smart, dark washes for a considered approach.
