‘I'M 102 AND HAVE SURVIVED CANCER - 2 TERRIFIC SOURCES OF PROTEIN KEEP ME HEALTHY AND STRONG'

A centenarian has attributed his remarkable longevity and athletic prowess to three decades of plant-based eating.

Mik Fremont, who set a world record marathon at the age of 90, believes his vegan lifestyle has been fundamental to his extraordinary health.

"At the age of 90, I ran a marathon, I set a world record," Mike shared in a recent interview with Tyler Waye on YouTube. "It's simple, the lifestyle that [I] have adopted, which is to eat vegan."

The athlete credits his dietary choices as a core factor in both his extended lifespan and his ability to maintain peak physical performance well into his tenth decade.

Mike's journey to veganism began following a cancer diagnosis, which he attributes to his previous consumption of animal products.

"I believe that the food that I ate had contributed to the disease," Mike told Tyler Waye during the YouTube interview.

This health crisis prompted a complete dietary transformation that has now lasted over three decades. Mike has maintained strict adherence to plant-based eating since making the switch.

"I haven't had any fish or meat in 30, 31 years. No animal protein, just vegetable protein," he explained.

The centenarian's conviction about the link between his former diet and his cancer diagnosis became the catalyst for what he considers a life-saving change.

Mike advocates for specific plant-based protein sources to maintain optimal health and athletic performance.

"Broccoli is terrific protein, by the way. Beans, any kind of beans, are a terrific protein," he stated.

The centenarian extends his dietary philosophy to competitive sports, suggesting that plant-based nutrition could become essential for athletic success.

"When major athletic teams go vegan, you know it's important, it may become the only way they can win," Mike observed.

He particularly encouraged younger generations and athletes to embrace veganism for enhanced performance.

"You want to get the best out of your bodies? Go vegan," he urged.

Mike's personal testimony aligns with recent scientific findings on plant-based nutrition and longevity.

A comprehensive 30-year study published in Nature Medicine examined dietary patterns among more than 105,000 participants.

The research revealed that following nutrient-dense, plant-based diets increased the likelihood of healthy ageing by between 45 and 86 per cent.

The study characterised healthy ageing as reaching 70 years without developing major chronic diseases whilst preserving cognitive, physical and mental wellbeing.

These findings provide scientific validation for Mike's dietary philosophy, suggesting his exceptional health and athletic achievements may indeed be linked to his three-decade commitment to veganism.
