Lee Burkill, a gardening expert, joined the BBC's Garden Rescue in 2020, but what does his life look like when he's not on telly?
The 42-year-old presenter joined the team following the departures of Arit Anderson, David, and Harry Rich. From the seventh series onwards, he has been appearing alongside Flo Headlam, Chris Hull, and, of course, the veteran presenter Charlie Dimmock.
The programme follows this team of top-notch designers as they transform drab outdoor spaces into enchanting havens. The green-fingered crew compete to create dream gardens across the UK.
Despite Lee's remarkable gardening prowess, horticulture wasn't always his chosen career path, and he once had a very different job.
Before delving into the world of gardening, he spent over a decade working in IT. However, after growing frustrated with the industry, he decided to explore his creative side, reports Lancs Live.
Lee's journey to fame began when he started his own blog and YouTube channel under the moniker 'The Garden Ninja'.
He quickly gathered thousands of followers who were eager for his gardening tips, tricks, and tutorials. Lee is also an Instagram sensation, boasting more than 43k followers, where he showcases his culinary skills and offers garden design courses.
According to the Garden Ninja website, Lee studied Horticulture with the RHS at Edinburgh Botanical Gardens and has designed hundreds of urban gardens, bringing over three decades of experience to the table.
Beyond the spotlight, Lee is a married man; however, the television personality prefers to maintain privacy around his personal life and hasn't revealed his husband's identity. That said, he has previously discussed how incredibly supportive his partner has been.
During a 2022 interview with online retailer and website Sitting Spiritually, he disclosed that it was his husband who motivated him to abandon IT and chase his dream career.
Lee openly discussed how a challenging spell at work resulted in a major career transformation, prompted by his husband. "My husband sowed the seed about making a career change in garden design after a particularly difficult time at work."
He went on to say: "He was the spark that pushed me to take the leap and pursue my true passion."
Back in November 2019, Lee spoke candidly about experiencing bullying throughout his adolescence for being gay, whilst expressing solidarity with the trans community.
He posted to his followers: "Starting to appreciate a microdose of what trans people must endure from some erroneous yet vicious online #trolls.
"Reminds me of being bullied as a teen for being gay. So today I want to raise a golden trowel to all #LGBTQoftwitter to all stand strong! #TransIsBeautiful".
Lee regularly posts his horticultural advice and adventures on Instagram via his account @Garden_ninja_Lee.
